Pug Health:
Introduction
Pug health is one of the top concerns for any dedicated Pug owner...we love our little guys and would do anything to keep them
healthy & happy!
Allen spoke recently with Dr. Chris Dresser, one of the best Pug health experts in the world. Dr. Dresser is chairman of the
Pug Dog Club of America's health committee, she's a practicing veternairan AND she loves Pugs...in fact, she has 11
Pug dogs of her own!!!
Here's a brief introduction to Dr. Dresser (and that's her in the photo below with her pregnant black Pug!):
Allen:
Okay. We are here with Dr. Chris Dresser to talk about health for
Pugs; nutrition, diet, illnesses and other hot topics for Pugs. And we’re so pleased to have Dr. Chris Dresser here on the
line. How are you Dr. Dresser?
Dr.
Dresser:
I’m doing fine, thank you.
Allen:
Great! Well before we get started we’d love to hear a little bit
about your background. Specifically your practice and also your involvement in the Pug community and with the Pug Dog Club of America. So can you tell us a little bit about yourself please?
Dr.
Dresser:
Absolutely. My mom and I started raising dogs and showing in
1964. And it wasn’t till 1980 I got my first Pug and joined the Pug Dog Club of
America. I graduated from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985 and have worked in small animal
practice since then. I’ve had my own practice for about the last four or five years. I have been the chairperson of the Pug
Dog Club of America Health Committee for the last I think it’s going on ten years now.
Allen:
Oh boy!
Dr.
Dresser:
And I certainly enjoy the breed tremendously.
Allen:
And I imagine you have some Pugs of your own
at home, is that right?
Dr. Dresser:
Yes, I currently have eleven Pugs and just as an aside they’re
all black. I happen to adore the blacks. I really like to show them and train them for obedience and a little bit of agility.
And I actually, currently one of my girls is going to hopefully have babies at the end of this month. [Laughs]
Allen:
Oh my goodness! Well con…
Dr.
Dresser:
It’s very exciting! [Laughs]
Allen:
Congratulations in advance to you.
Dr.
Dresser:
[Laughs]
Allen:
And Michelle and I both have, we have a black and a
fawn…
Dr. Dresser:
Ah.
Allen:
…and we love the black as well.
Dr.
Dresser:
They’re, they’re fun. [Laughs]
Allen:
Yeah. Unbelievable. And by the way everybody, you can learn more
about the Pug Dog Club of America and Dr. Dresser’s involvement with it by going to
Pugs.org which is a great website address. [Laughs] Very simple...
Dr. Dresser:
Mm-hmm.
Allen:
...and very straight forward.
We're glad to have you as members of our little community! Let us know if we can help you and your Pug dog.
